Jack Eaton: Great Scott! I rhyme a lot.
Jack will be appearing live at the Tiger Gift Shop to sign his new book.
MEMPHIS,
TN – Memphis-area sportscaster for nearly half a century and "Voice of
the Tigers" for 28 years, Jack Eaton has recently released his first
book of poems entitled Jack Eaton: Great Scott, I rhyme a lot. He will
be appearing live at the Tiger Gift Shop on Saturday, November 22 from
12 noon until 4 p.m. This event will give local fans the opportunity to
meet the legendary "Big" Jack, swap sports stories and purchase
autographed copies of his book.
Jack's book is a culmination of
more than 50 years of commentating on the Memphis sports scene. It's no
secret that "Big" Jack has been writing poems for much of his career.
He used to deliver poems regularly on his news broadcasts and his
highly successful radio show for years.
Now out of the
limelight, Jack has had time to collect together over one hundred of
his greatest poems in a one-of-a-kind book. One of the most beloved
figures in Memphis sports and/or media, Jack has had an inside look at
many of the most influential sports stories in the Memphis-area over
the past half century. His poems feature a unique insight into the
sports world – most delivered to great comedic effect.
This
collection is a must-read for Memphis-area sports fans young and old.
And though there is a great amount of attention played to the Memphis
Tigers in the book, that is not the sole focus. The NFL, the Memphis
Grizzlies, baseball, the University of Tennessee and even local area
politics draw the attention of what WMC-TV5 has called "The Bard of
Union Avenue."
Jack Eaton: Great Scott, I rhyme a lot. is the
first book published by Memphis Sport Magazine. Since 2006, Memphis
Sport Magazine, the premier Memphis-area sports magazine, has been
published bi-monthly and in full color with stellar graphics and
insightful writing and commentary. Though out of the media for a number
of years, Jack continues to write four to five poems a week. For more

Jack Eaton has begun his promotion for his new book -- Jack Eaton, Great Scott, I rhyme a lot. He began by visiting Memphis Sport Radio this past Saturday. Then on Monday, he called into the Rain Man's Show (The Southern Sports Report on Sports56) and Mike Fleming's show (The Mike Fleming Show on WREC 600). He had a poem prepared for the Rain Man and one for Mike Fleming...
He can't guarantee you'll win,he would if he could
But realistically your chances are pretty good
How does he do it,between me and you
I really do not have a single clue.
Now his buddy Tony whether you like it or not
When it comes to betting he don't know squat.
I think where he really gets in dutch
He listens to Jeff Weinberger way too much.
So Tony please call call a halt
And take what Weinberger says with a grain of salt.
I've been trying to catch this commercial for at least six months, since it first appeared while my wife was watching Oprah. Well, to my delight, it appeared again this past weekend, before and during the Titans game. So, finally, I am able to share with you Memphis Sport magazine in this West Clinic commercial. Pay attention when they are panning through the room and look at what the boy is reading. Yes – that's us. View the commercial here... It is the Coach Cal and Mike Fratello issue way back from our first year. Thanks West Clinic.
In case you missed it, our own congressman from Memphis, Steve Cohen used our M Report (Rebel Yell) as the basis for bestowing an award on two of Ole Miss' cheerleaders last week. Check it out here...
