Notice I didn't say they lost to the Blazers. They gave it up like a drunk prom date. Don't get me wrong, the Blazers are tough, fast, and not afraid to play ugly. But last night the RiverKings just weren't all there. It was less like a hockey game to the RiverKings, and more like "BadPassAPalooza '08".
The Blazers came out and scored first, which is usually not a good sign for the RiverKings. Costanzo scored the RiverKings only goal of the

night in the second and then the Blazers put one more up in the second and the real hope crusher early in the third. But the scoreboard wasn't telling the story. It was apparent to those of us watching the slipping and sliding who was going to win this one. I mean come on guys, two 5 on 3 opportunities wasted, really?
I am still so bummed about this game, I'm going to try to calm down and quit cussing, then I'm going to try to focus on the positives.

First, despite the obviously overly slipperiness of the ice that kept the RiverKings from scoring, these girls managed to not fall and injure themselves.
Also, congratulations to Derek Landmesser for the most blatant stick holding I have ever seen. And gutsy enough to do it right in front of the ref too.

Oh, and no sarcasm here folks, big time kudos to the fans. Despite the outcome of the game, and the lack of decent game-play by the home team, the fans were fired up. Not just the newbies who have never been to a game and love the loud noises and fights, but even the regulars that usually sit so still you want to hold a mirror under their noses or check for a pulse. There was a lot of screaming and cheering, and at the appropriate times, too. It always gets loud when fists are being thrown, but last night there was plenty of good fan support going on during penalty kills and near misses. It was good.

The only other thing I really enjoyed about last night was seeing Doug Sauter heckle the refs. It's not falling out of my chair funny, but seeing a fan heckling a coach who's heckling a ref tickles me. And I can usually count on Sauter for this kind of entertainment.
The RiverKings are hosting the Blazers here again in just under two hours, and unfortunately I won't be able to attend tonight's game. So you'll just have to go yourselves and make up your minds about what's wrong, and more importantly what's right, about this season's RiverKings team. Good luck guys. I'll be listening to Bob on the radio, making smart-ass comments and cheering you on!
As usual Chris you are spot on. This team had so many things wrong on Friday it was hard to keep track.
