American Idol Final Power Rankings
It’s not what America says; it’s what I say that goes.
First of all, let me address those of you who act like you don’t watch American Idol: We all know you are full of crap. You not only watch; you probably phone in or text your votes every week. Secondly, let me point out that I am the 1st Annual American Idol Fantasy League Champion, so I know exactly what I’m talking about. Now, for my final rankings, based on the vocalists’ singing ability, marketability and personal character.
12 – Haley Scarnato: No, this is not a misprint. Haley’s singing would be better termed yelling and her overall approach was transparent and shallow. As if it matters, I didn’t find her attractive.
11 – Sanjaya Malakar: If you possess a modicum of musical talent you’ll concede that Sanjaya has an above average level of talent. He’s only 17; despite his lack of confidence and experience, he advanced time and again on AI. But no, I’d never buy anything he recorded nor would I pay to see him.
10 – Gina Glocksen: The resident rocker wasn’t bad. Nice girl. Decent voice. Much more stage presence and confidence than our resident Indian.
9 – Lakisha Jones: Her star sure was bright, but I’m not sure how long she’ll last. Great girl. Great singer.
8 – Chris Sligh: A touch more marketable than Kiki, this chubby dude can sing. He’ll make it just fine, although his “star-power” still needs some work.
7 – Phil Stacey: For some reason, I’m still not sure if I like Phil. I’ll concede, however, he can really sing…curiously with just about the same vocal sound as Chris Sligh. At the same time, I see a little more marketing potential with Stacey than I do with Chris.
6 – Chris Richardson: His first performance in the Top 24 was his best and was a highlight of the entire AI season. He never performed to that level again. However, all is not lost, as Chris has style, time and natural born talent. His voice might not be quite as pure as Phil, Chris or Lakisha’s, but it’s good. And when it comes to image and marketability, he stands head and shoulders above those three.
5 – Brandon Rogers: This guy has the look and the voice. I’d give him the “Worst Song Choosing Talent Award,” as his poor execution to that end is undoubtedly what led to his dismissal from the show. BRog could’ve challenged himself so much more while on AI. I believe he’ll do so now that he’s out on his own.
4 – Stephanie Edwards: Make no mistake, Steph had one of the Top 3 or 4 best voices on the show. She probably has the 1st or 2nd best vocal range (Jordin). Clearly, those of us who watched the show also know that she’s quite marketable. The AI fans didn’t keep her around as long as they should’ve, but she’ll certainly be a mainstay in the music industry for a long, long time!
3 – Melinda Doolittle: My personal favorite from week 1. This genuine sweetheart made it possible for everyone to get to know her true self. She dominated from week to week from a vocal perspective, missing nary a note throughout 15 weeks of competition. She handled herself perfectly on every occasion. And of course, she’s from Nashville. Good stuff. Unfortunately, she was up against 2 marketing gems!
2 – Blake Lewis: Look, as a drummer, there’s nothing I’d like more than to put Blake ahead of Jordin Sparks. However, Jordin’s voice is not even in the same ball-park as Blake’s. Sure, in a competition of beat-boxing, it’s no contest for Blake. But when it comes to singing and selling records, Jordin really might be the next Mariah Carey. Let’s be honest here; she’s only 17! What?
1 – Jordin Sparks: Uh. Yeah. See above.

Ed- Hopefully this is the last time I have to hear you mention Doolittle-(or no neck). Who's happy she got the ax? This Girl! Congrats on the win- you earned it...and by earned I mean cheated...just kidding...and by kidding I mean crazy jealous.
